So everyone, and I mean everyone has they own opinion about the David Beckham extended loan/transfer/cluster-Eff/media circus from the last few months between LA Galaxy and AC Milan. I have been back on forth on this, left and right, up and down. Right now, I think I am just unsure. Apparently Becks has had a few things added to his MLS contract. One, according to Ives, he now would need to pay his way out of the contract at the end of the year if he wants to rejoin Milan in November. So, MLS stood their ground. Sure, he won't be here as the Galaxy struggle through March, April, May, and half of June, and then he'll be back and forth to Europe for English friendlies, but maybe, if he can gain enough Fabio Capello ground to earn the World Cup, then he will actually stick around the final two years of his MLS contract. I don't know. We'll see. Personally, I was more intrigued (even if Becks is duping me) by his assertion that he can and will buy an MLS team as soon as he's done playing here. That to me seems like an option that MLS would have to consider, and Beckham could become (AGAIN) very profitable in American futbol football soccer. Who knows? What do you think people? Did LA get screwed? Is this a win-win? A lose-lose? Is this a bucket of crap covered in vomit? I don't know... you tell me.

In the meantime, two more things. One, MLS breaks out again, this time in "brand new Qwest Field" (brand new to MLS, brand middle aged to Seattle's NFL Seahawks), with the Seattle Sounders FC inagural Home Opener against New York Gross Sugar Stimulus Drink. The game starts at 9pm ET, 6PM Pacific on ESPN2, and the HD version. Personally, I can't wait. I hope the band sounds great, that Wynalda's back on ESPN (fat chance), and that we have some serious Seattle atmosphere! Watch this game people.

Apparently, lifting the soccer profile in America, and winning that elusive playoff spot for the Galaxy was so difficult for David Beckham, that he paid millions of dollars to go to a much easier league Italy's Serie A, and play with a bunch of Mickey Mouse players like Kaka, Seedorf, and Ronaldinho. I, for one, hope David Beckham comes back in June and can even compete with our true football league, Major League Soccer. But, just to remind him what time it is when he does, pick up the new David Beckham Couldn't Cut it in MLS T-Shirt for just $29.95!! Go get it while supplies last...

What are your thoughts on this? Should LAG just have transferred Becks to AC Milan? Should they be happy with their "Time Share" agreement? If you were a Galaxy fan (poor choice if so) would you be happy with this? And most of all, can the Galaxy make the playoffs this year?

Soccer, Coffee, and Italian Wars

1) Ole Ole Ole, And Other Corporate Cheers: Major League Soccer is on its way back. I know I know, all you are hearing about every single freaking day is about whether or not Posh Spice's husband will return to Los Angeles from Italy. And, we too are getting sick of that story ourselves, but that isn't stopping our passion for Major League Soccer. With a new team in Seattle, and over 18,000 Frasiers with season tickets, this is going to be fun! I personally can't wait to get up there and watch a game, and that's just the first thing I am excited about. Don't forget my Quakes were ripping up the second half of last season, and they've only gotten better since the season ended (welcome to NorCal Bobby Convey). Like that douche Alexi Lalas always says, I got MLS Fever.

2) Rant You: Personally, I am getting very annoyed with David Beckham, and all the hoopla. I just hope that AEG and LA Galaxy don't get made a fool of in the end. Maybe an $8 or $10 Million transfer fee would be worth it. And by the way, people have always spoken of the weakness of MLS based upon the fact that guys like Clint Dempsey go to EPL but they do so for teams like Fulham at the relegation zone of England's top flight. But, if this means that MLS sucks, then what does it mean when two players (Landon, and Becks) leave the worst team (I think so) in MLS, the LA Gals, and tear it up for the best team in Germany, Bayern Munich, and a very top side in Italy, AC Milan? Does this mean that MLS is better than the Bundesliga or Serie A? Probably not, but it sure does negate a lot of old stupid arguments against MLS. And, just a year ago didn't everyone in Europe say that Becks is washed up has been? Then why is AC Milan coach Ancelotti calling him "indespensable" to the Rosseneri? Just some thoughts....

3) London Calling? No, Saudi Arabia? Freddy Ljundberg in for Seattle Sounders FC (if a little banged up after an offseason surgery). Another Freddy out of Argentina? More on that later. Bobby Convey in to San Jose EarthQuakes after being released by Championship side Reading, of Yahoo!'s Michael Silver's obsession. LA Galaxy have obviously been involved in some transfer out talk, but they also had their eyes on Michael Owen, until the England international striker got hurt recently. They have also apparently talked about some trades with AC Milan to gain some added value from the Beckham saga. I would personally be happy if we saw Ronaldinho come stateside. More in the next few weeks. Oh, but one more, my main man Sacha Kljestan of ChivasUSA went on trial with Celtic who made an offer to the Goats which was promptly rejected. Look for other suitors before the end of MLS season 2009.

4) I Be DonG- State of The League: Garber himself is the subject of this slot, as he quickly became the business star in the Beckham saga placing (a seemingly abitrary) deadline on Milan and Galaxy's talks. He's gotten lots of praise, and he should. Now, it's also important that if the right transfer price is offered that he obliges, and explains the benefit to the league as the reason to forget the previously stated deadline. However, if they don't deal honestly with MLS, Don Garber can become a big dog by socking the bullies in the noses. I say, punch the Italians, and punch them hard. We are building a league here, go for Donnie!

5) "I said Joe Montegna: I know I have never been a Sunil Gulati or Bob Bradley fan. That said, they both had HUGE weeks. Gulati and Bradley negotiated the "Guerra Fria", or the cold war with Mexico up in Columbus. The United States benefitted with 3 points in the Qualifying race, and all the while gaining ground in the race to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022. The Blog would love to see the WC return to the land of the free, and we would take back everything we have said about both of these citizens. Good luck fellas.

Playoffs... Playoffs?

1) Ole Ole Ole, And Other Corporate Cheers: It's playoffs time, and you know that makes us weak in the knees. First up is the classic matchup between Blanco's Red Mexican Fire against the Patriots's Side Project in New England. Hopefully Chicago can take this series. The last thing I want to see is another final with Taylor Twellman crying his "almost good enough" eyes out. More on New England in "Rant You." Lots of great games on the way, not enough on national tv, but still some good games. Surprise showing, Real Salt Lake squeaked in, and now gets to show off badass Rio Tinto Stadium just a few weeks after opening it. Good for the Mormons, should be a nice time to build a supporters group. Favorite matchup in the first round goes to Columbus Crew against the Kansas City Wizards. Sure it won't be on ESPN, but these two teams have shown well both on the field, and in creating atmosphere this season. Either city will look great in the Conference Finals.

Predictions:
Chicago Beats New England on Aggregate Goals 4-2.
Columbus Takes KC down 3-1.
Houston Dynamo ease into the Conference Finals beating NY Red Bulls 5-1.
Chivas USA will beat Real Salt Lake 3-2 after a long dog fight (don't count out some overtime here).

2) Rant You: I hate you New England Revolution. I hate your weak stadium that is built on the cheating wins of your American Football team. I hate Tom Brady. I hate your fans. I hate your bad weather finals on artificial turf in front of NOBODY. Don't get me wrong supporters, you are working hard to create atmosphere, but you sound like poop, and despite your best efforts you all look no better than FCD, or Colorado Crapids. Most of all I hate that ESPN always shows your team, in your stadium. It looks like you have 72 fans there, and your stadium can hold 68,000. Why does ESPN choose to go there every year?? One thing you have in your favor is that Shalrie Joseph is an absolute pimp. I can't hate on him. But the rest of you can go blow chowder as far as I am concerned.

3) London Calling? No, Saudi Arabia? This will be quick. There's a new underwear model in Major League Soccer. Freddie Ljundberg of Swedish National Team, Arsenal (9 seasons), and West Ham (1 just a season), has been introduced to the world as the Seattle Sounders Designated Player. The press conference was pretty sweet. You might want to check it out, click here. Joe Roth, the movie producer owner guy was talking about something pretty interesting. He basically said what they want to do in Seattle is put Major League Soccer on the forefront, the mainstream of the city's sport. Instead of being the back story, or an occasional link to a David Beckham story, they want Seattle Sounders FC to be the major sport, or at least one of them, in Seattle. Hey, if anyone can do it, I would say Seattle can. And in a related story, apparently David Beckham is showing his absolute commitment and love to Los Angeles by leaving. He's on his way to Milan, to suck a few more caps out of Fabio Capello, and try and make some history. Meanwhile, Landon Donovan has been filling out resumes for English and Spanish teams left and right. He wants to play there. He'll tell you all about it. And in another related story Jimmy cracked corn... Good luck douchebag, I hear La Liga and EPL have nothing on a bottomdweller German team like you played* for a few years back. (* Sat the bench until your sobbing ass got to go back to southern california).

4) I Be DonG- State of The League: The League got a sick new trophy. They named it after the Galaxy's devil, Anschutz. But nevertheless (see we know big words), it's sick! So might I add, is the state of the league. The stadiums keep on coming, better than the ones before them, and there are more supporters groups in every city than anyone ever dreamed of. The new cities want in all over our country, and even in our inbred brothers to the north. On top of that, it seems funny to me that 2 years ago when someone named David said he was coming to America everybody laughed, and now 2 years in to that career, one of the top teams on the planet have finally brokered a deal to get his services for 2-3 months on loan. I would say MLS is on the map, even if they don't see that yet. Holler.

1) Ole Ole Ole, And Other Corporate Cheers: So fellas, I have to say I am finally getting around to talking about my first experience at an EarthQuakes game. It was a clear afternoon with a bit of sun sitting atop the gorgeous little field known as Buck Shaw, and I had 3 tickets for my pops, my brother, and myself, to join the 1906 Ultras! By far, this is the greatest fan club to be a part of. No offense to the Casbah, I wish them success and happy, non-offensive cheers, but the Ultras aren't sick, they're ill. (Props to Lil Wayne). Also, watching that guy squirm in the DC United shirt was priceless. I will be back Ultras, I will be back!
2) Rant You: Please understand I don't really have a specific political team that I root for. I have made a choice on the upcoming presidential election, and I will choose to keep that to myself. But, have any of you logical, intelligent readers watched MSNBC recently? Good gawd, just five minutes will make you so angry you could squeeze Keith Olbermann's head off of his neck! I just hope he and his boyfriend Rachel Maddow get fired before someone has to remind MSNBC that they ought to be OBJECTIVE. Every segment of Olbermann's show should end with, paid for by Barack Obama for presidency in 2008. There's just a angry one sided argument cherry picking any story to propel his favorite candidate in to the presidency. It's disgusting. Thank Comedy Central for the Daily Show's Jon Stewart (a personal hero) setting them straight. Leave it to comedians for an objective look at what us public folks call "the news".
3) London Calling? No, Saudi Arabia? We have two issues to cover here in LCNSA this time. The first thing will be the quick success and excitement if former New York Red Bull and US International Jozy Altidore at Villareal. You can see his clips from his first league game here at youtube. He played the last 45 in his league debut, and even scored a hat trick in a friendly meeting against a semi pro team San Rafael. At just 18 years old, let's hope this kid produces like this for the USA, as soon as Mr. Magoo (bob bradley, hockey coach) is relieved of his duties as US Men's National Team Coach. Oh yeah, the second thing. It appears Landon Donovan is interested in having a superstar career again. Even though they don't have good night lights or Oreo cookies, Landon is considering a transfer to Germany in the Bundesliga. Sure, the superclub Bayern Munich may only be interested in him because Jurgen Klinnsman was singing his praises around the club's cubicles. But hey, if this makes Landon the player he SHOULD be, than I am all for it. Then Becks can be a one man road show for the Galaxy, that should end well, yeeks!
4) I Be DonG- State of The League: Wow, what a time to do this part of the blog! There is so much expansion news, you footy fans should be thanking your lucky stars. Don Garber announced a little while back that in addition to adding Seattle Sounders FC in 2009, and the MLS outfit in Philly in 2010, that there will be another two teams added to the league by 2011. With that in mind let me show you the list of serios contenders, the cities, the ownership groups, and the plans. The links provide so many interesting details. Check it out, this looks to be a dogfight.

1) New York City. Owners, The New York Mets, plans, build a stadium across from the Mets new stadium by 2011.
2) Miami. Owners, FC Barcelona, new stadium in Miami.
3) Montreal. Liverpool owner Tom Hicks / Montreal Impact.
4) Vancouver. Owners, Whitecaps FC/ Steve Nash.
5) Portland. Owners? DG has named Portland a contender, but it may take some public funds. PGE park to renovated.
6) Atlanta, Arthur Blankenship / Atlanta Falcons.
7) St. Louis, remember these guys, they wanted in like 3 years ago.
8) Ottawa, the newest one on the list. Pretty cool site. NHL Senators/ Melnyk.

So, here's the newest concept here, why not bring in 4 of these groups by 2011. With $40million expansion fees to get in to the club for each ownership group, this would be a huge addition to the league, and would bring in some awesome owners and fans to the league. My choices, in this order: Montreal, NYCFC, Portland, Vancouver. However, if FC Barcelona is serious about Miami, they would bump Portland from my list.

No Laughing Matter

Tragic news in our sport and city today. You may or may not have heard about this local tragedy. Yes, the story broke today about a local boy, Brandon Mitchell Baker 14 of Antelope, who died while attending a soccer practice at Center High School in Antelope. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Baker family, and his friends and teammates at Center High School. Certainly this is a sad day in our city, and for our sport. (Here's the story).
If we hear of any way to honor or support Brandon's family or legacy, we will certainly post that as soon as possible. If you hear of anything please let us know.

1) Ole Ole Ole, And Other Corporate Cheers: So before you get all Berkeley on me, and picket outside my door, first of all, let me tell you that I am a Barack Obama supporter. I personally can't wait to have no homework, and pizza parties every day. It's going to be radical. Not to mention the jocks and cheerleaders are voting for him. But this did catch my eye. Did anyone else notice that Grandpa McCain picked a super hot milf to be are next Vice Prez? Wowie Maui. I don't think you are supposed to have day dreams about the number two in command of the country. But excuse me for thinking that a chick this hot may just be able to woo our enemies in to submission. I'm thinking she puts a skirt on, and we can get back to gas for 99cents!
2) Rant You: Speaking of politics, don't ever let me talk about that terribly boring stuff again. No, this is my time for a rant you all may have heard already. It's time for those three special letters. WTF? That's right each MLS team in the Concacaf Champions League (creepy choir singing ommitted), has been dropped. Teams like Joe Public of Bulgaria, and Tauro of Khazakstan have beat out New England and Chivas USA in the first legs of the competition. I'm sorry, but I am not the only to have never heard of these Central American teams. This is a pitiful disgrace, and it all falls back on the clubs, the league, and the ridiculously low salary cap. Back when Don Garber said we need to do better, he was right. But he needs to enforce a salary cap increase to put our teams on par with great teams like Tauro, and Joe Public! Good God. Rant over.

3) London Calling? No, Saudi Arabia? Still like the single entity format MLS fans? Do you like Don Garber waving his magic wand over decisions, tossing a coin, and then playing eenie meenie miny moe, to see what we should do next as a league? If so, maybe you didn't hear that DG just rejected New York Red Bulls attempted transfer of some guy named Kandji in the USL. Apparently this dude is a force down in Atlanta for the Razorbacks? And they were going to take the transfer for $200,000. It's cheap, it's in the clubs best interest, and yet MLS Headquarters decided against it citing a "bad precedent". Color me suspicious. I get the feeling Donald would prefer not to write any checks to the USL for fear of their improvement. Gasp! This ISH needs to stop.

4) I Be DonG- State of The League: Playoffs are coming, and let's hope that means more attendance, better tv ratings, and a bunch of press leading in to next season's addition of Seattle Sounders, the 2010 addition of the Philly MLS squad, still nameless, as well as the double trouble addition of 2 squads yet to be named for 2011. I would say look for a run from LA Galaxy in the playoffs, as well as some last minute theatrics out of our backyard San Jose Earthquakes. It's a good time to be a Quakes fan, and another interesting playoff race for all MLS fans. If we can get some good games in this last leg of the season, we may continue to see growth in the MLS fanbase nationwide.

Ruud, Lalas, & Olympic Suckery

1) Ole Ole Ole, And Other Corporate Cheers: Alexi Lalas fired from the "SuperClub" he created...? What? But they were doing so well. I mean, apart from getting destroyed in the goals against category every night, they were well on their way to being almost decent. Ruud Gullit decided to leave the Gals "for personal reasons", sure. That's not the way bossman Tim Leiweke made it sound. I am sure glad the EarthQuakes aren't owned by AEG right now, because the Galaxy are a mess. Good luck "first week" coach Cobi Jones, you most definitely need it. And, yes Alexi Lalas called LA Galaxy a 'superclub', multiple times. But he also called NY Red Bulls a 'superclub' too. I wonder how DC United and The Houston Dynamo feel about that? Aren't those the guys that keep winning everything? Farewell Hippie. Maybe consider a career that's more stable, like, I don't know, Music? Oh yeah...

2) Rant You: The Men's Olympic Soccer Team was eliminated from the gray skies of smog this week by Nigeria. First round, and out. They were missing Bob Bradley jr, Mikey, and Freddy Adu. I'm not sure if either of them have their driver's license, but it doesn't matter as they were suspended. Great timing boys, that sure is world class. Then some kid named, Michael Orozco (who??) was red carded in the opening minutes. Call me crazy, but aren't the Olympics a big enough of an event to take seriously, and not be a dumbass looking for cards. This is just another indictment of where our Men's program is going. The first round, and out. Flush Peter Nowak, Bob Bradley, and Sunil Gulati down the toilet, please. Get it over with. By the way, want to read verbal BS on my blog? Please continue, Coach Nowak said after the first round elimination of his players-

"They played so
hard that, for me, they won the gold medal"

Please.

3) London Calling? No, Saudi Arabia? This just in, MLS expansion team Seattle Sounders FC (beginning in 2009) are set to make a big player signing announcement Thursday at 2pm from Qwest Field. GoSounders.com is reporting it will be ancient American goalkeeper Kasey Keller. And, yeah, everybody saw this coming, but I am hoping that one of these days Seattle will go out and sign someone splashy and talented. Thierry Henry anyone? The only thing special about Keller is his past. If anyone saw him join team america "Fulham" last season, you saw lots and lots of rust on the yankee golden boy. Hopefully this works out better than Grandpa Claudio Reyna did in New York.

4) I Be DonG- State of The League: There's been loads and loads of discussions recently about the harassment of Colorado Rapids fans by the security in Denver. I want to say, as the future replacement of Donald Garber, that I for one think that the Rapids front office really need to step up and build their fanbase. This no longer exists at the Dick. I don't know what kind of office environment is out there in the mile high city, but it sounds a lot like Dwight K Schrute is running Dick's. And yes, that is what she said. Here's to the 15 fans at last week's FSC game of the week. Quick rant, kill every effing kid that blows one of those stupid horns. I had to turn the game off. Grrr.

5) "I said Joe Montegna:" You may not be a fan of LA Galaxy, or Chivas USA, and I get that. I ain't their fan either mang. But, if you have eyes, you gotta watch MLS PrimeTime on ESPN2 tomorrow. The SuperClasico airs at 11PM ET, 8PM Pacific, and will be a great show. The only true derby in MLS is always a fistfight, and with this week's extra LA dramatics, count on a true hollywood story. Watch it fools.

New Format & Big Letters

I got a new format, I may change it here and there, but so far here goes:

5 Subjects for each post. Usually that will be every week. Back to the watercooler.1) Title: Ole Ole Ole, and Other Corporate Cheers: This one will always be the best soccer story of the week. For example, today's story would have to be Houston's win over Pachuca in the SemiFinal of SuperLiga. I know, I am supposed to hate Houston as a true EarthQuakes fan, but I can only imagine an MLS side winning SuperLiga if Pachuca isn't in the final. And, I can only imagine Houston as the American team that could possibly pull off this victory. Cheers to the Orange, as dirty as that feels.

2) Title: Rant You:This will always be a rant. For example, I might talk about how much Bob Bradley sucks as the coach of the US Men's National Team. Or, I might talk about how much Sunil Gulati sucks as the leader of the United States Soccer Federation. Or, I might talk about how Sunil Gulati called me on my personal phone number, to try and convince me the last two things I wrote were untrue. If you are wondering, yes, he did, and no, he wasn't successful.

3) Title: London Calling, No? Saudi Arabia? This will be on Player or Team news: Here I will be talking about things like Cristiano Ronaldo being the current slave of Manchester United. Or, I will talk about the Dallas camp enjoying news that boy wonder Kenny Cooper is here to stay, or, at least stay until big club offers big transfer. You will hear my spin on things of this nature here.

4) Title: State of the League:I be DonG: This will be what's coming up, what game to watch. Who's the team on the rise. I will choose at random, and blog away like Donny G. On a side note, hey Don, you leave the blogging to me.

5) Title: "I said Joe Montegna": This will be a free for all. Anything goes here. Bad emails. Stupid bigsoccer posts. Retarded American commentaries on how low scoring soccer is. Alright people. So, I have been out of the game for, ehh, a while. Apologies, apologies. Sleeping at the wheel. But, I've got my sea legs back so I am going to jump on my soapbox and get to work.

First issue: Does anyone remember my little story on the prospect of Ronaldinho (pictured above) coming to MLS?? Apparently, not only was it my number one searched for story, but people who matter were reading it. That's right. A story I predicted way back in December of 2007, that most people mocked me on, is getting greasy all over MLS. It looks like Ronnie is hollywood bound to come join the team Errbody loves to hate, Los Angeles Galaxy. Now it looks like David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Carlos Ruiz, and Ronaldinho will somehow all do math to become one single designated player for LA. 1+1+1+1 = 1?

Some major publications began reporting this, just as I had months back, but are now trying to say it is all speculation, and Ronnie isn't interested. It looks like the meeting will happen with AEG and Ronnie this week in Houston.

And I still say the story has legs, and should move with a little persistance from MLS and LA Gals. The new plan has LA offering him somewhere around $36 million per year (or 18 million in euro moolah). That would be with 18 for playing contract, $18 for image rights and sponsorship. Does anyone remember when I wrote this in December?

So if Beckham can yeild a return on the MLS investment of $250 million in five years through endorsements, why can't we go after Ronaldinho and pay him $20 million a year (most through sponsors) for 3-4 years?

No respect... anyway regarding all the hate on LA, it's justified. Sure. But why aren't the other clubs fighting to get stars too? It seems all too easy to blame LA for wanting stars, when our teams, like the San Jose EarthQuakes could be the biggest draw in the Bay Area with someone like Ronnie! Why aren't we offering 20 million a year for him? Don't we want to fill stadiums?

And don't tell me other clubs can't afford these players, because it just isn't true. These clubs all have millionaire investors and could pay for anyone they want, but they choose to low ball it. That's on them. Now, just imagine an MLS with Henry up in Seattle, Ronnie somewhere in MLS, Beckham, and Blanco. It's going to be a great league here soon, and I hope soon means now. Remember when I called this months ago? I am sure I'll never get that credit, ah well.

It's The US Men's National Team against Argentina! In front of 80,000 people the US hope to not get embarassed (again) by a superior team. Lots of questions follow this game. What to do about our coach, Bob Bradley? Where do we rank among International competition? Are we getting worse or better?

Game Commentary Live By the Minute here:

First Half:

1) Wow, you can't see the difference in the uniforms, light blue and white against white? Come on.

2) You can hear the 80,000 people! That's a serious crowd. Hopefully they won't be dissappointed by another loss.

3) So, it's 86 degrees, but on the pitch it's 115? Confused, but I can only imagine how bad that is.

4) So far, better than the other games. The US might have a lift with Donovan back. I still feel like it was a suspect injury, to get his 100th cap in front of Americans.

11) Dangerous moments. The D looks a little more solid tonight. I like Califf in over Bocanegra. But I would prefer to take Gooch out.

13) Slowing down here. US have a nice possession. Can this last?

15) Cherundolo blew a cross to Beasley, after a great buildup. That's why we have him in, for his offensive progress from the Defense?

15) On a break, I see Gooch walking back to cover?? If this guy ever meets me he can count on being B-Slapped! I can't understand why this linebacker starts in our center back role. Bob Bradley, any answers?

17) Free Kick should have been put away by Heinze. We could easily be down 1-0.

18) Free Kick for us, where's David Beckham? Oh yeah...

19) Gooch gets thrown (right) and the first yellow comes out to Argentina. Nothing on EJ's header. Good service from Landon.

19) Last second of 18th minute, Heath Pierce has a go... he should have found a pass.

20) Foul called, and there's an argentinian down. Head to head knock. Danny Califf is looking alright so far. He's much faster than Carlos Bocanegra, but Onyewu is a real weakness. Correction, player down but no foul called.

21) Gooch heads a ball down in the center asking for a Argentina goal. No, I don't like this guy.

25) Landon goes at them on a break, and makes contact, gets called for a dive. No card.

26) Pressure is on, the US are doing alright. Better than we expected. The home field may be a part of it.

28) Another lucky but amazing save by Tim Howard, on a break. Again, Gooch, our constant center back is no where to be found. He never has the center locked up.

29) Califf is called right in front of the box for his arms all over their striker. This is where we usually get scored on. Sportscenter!

30) Goes over the bar. Lucky.

31) Dempsey gets cracked again. He'll be sore tonight if he makes it through the game. His feet are quicker tonight than they have been lately.

32) Dempsey has a go, deflection, close to the back post. I was screaming, corner.

33) The defense handled a quick transition pretty well. Credit Beasley for coming back and grabbing the ball. - EJ offsides again.

34) Another phantom free kick for Argentina about 45 out.

35) Where's Freddy Adu, good question. JP asks the same thing in so many words.

35) Pierce has a crack from 18 out, near post, not bad.

36) Another nice save by Howard. We have to clear the ball better.

37) Good possession by the US. Nothing comes of it, but Argentina bottled us up pretty well.

38) Beasley again makes a great defensive play in keeping the striker from gaining possession.

39) Landon gets taken down from behind about 23 out, and no call. It hasn't been consistent from our officials.

40) A little break here, and almost through the first half, we've seen a better USMNT. Not enough to get a goal, but hey, we'll take improvement when we can find it.

41) Pierce bottles up the right striker again, he's been solid tonight.

41) EJ went in soft on a 50-50 and we lose possession. He needs to be accountable for that. No more freebies Ed.

43) Dempsey to Johnson, ok chance with a low header. Not too dangerous, but it's a decent opportunity.

44) Harkes says again that this game is about us "qualifying for World Cup". I can't take that kind of garbage. We aren't playing Argentina, Spain, and England to prepare to qualify. It's about improving, and becoming a legitimate contender on the world stage.

45) Steve Cherundolo makes a huge mistake. Gives the ball away in front of the 18.

45) Unbelievable open net save from Tim Howard. WOW! He might be the top keeper in the world right now. I'm not kidding.

Stoppage: Scary corner here.

Half.

Well for all of our complaining on BigSoccer, the Nats have been better tonight. Sure the score could be 2 or 3 to 0 right now, but Tim Howard has been stellar. Now, we'll see if this effort can last through the second half. I am still unhappy with Bradley's selection of Onyewu, and Eddie Johnson over Freddy Adu. I am pleased with Pearce, and Califf. Those have been good moves. And, if Tim Howard wasn't already booked up with Everton, he would getting lots of calls from overseas tomorrow. Everton fans must be watching with smiles.

Who, if any, will Bob Bradley sub in at the start of the half. I think Gooch could be taken out, as well as Eddie Johnson. A dangerous attacker like Freddy Adu would open up Landon Donovan, and might lead to a goal. Also, Maurice Edu for Pablo Maestroeni would be a decent move. Pablo hasn't made too much happen, and Maurice has been a good player in the center lately.

Quick Note: ESPN Classics need new sponsors. The Pure Sleep Snoring Commercial is giving me the creeps. I hate watching the throat vibrate. Yuck! This was an especially long halftime. I had time to take the trash out, and even make the bed. My wife might even kiss me when she gets home.

So, Bob Bradley put in Maurice Edu, but for Michael Bradley, not Pablo Maestroeni. I think Edu is a good addition, but MB was on tonight. Sure, against Spain he looked tired, but he looked good tonight. Maybe BB has been reading too many blogs and felt that pressure.

2nd Half:

46) Pearce made a great run, and nice cross. Almost had a good shot, but Donovan's shot took a bad deflection.

47) Gooch hit the corner off the cross bar. We moved it around, and get another corner. Close call.

48) Donovan got a good ball, and leans back as he takes a shot. Bummer.

49) We look stronger this half. Surely Donovan as hated as he is in NorCal, is very very vital to our team.

50) Lost ball by Edu, then EJ makes a slow and poor foul. He needs to get smarter. It looks like EJ grabbed Mascherano's balls. Yikes. Mascherano might be pissed.

51) Gooch is down field (out of position) and Tim Howard stops another open net. Aguero fell over Howard, and looks for the PK. Nothing doing. Again, Gooch needs to play his position, or be brought out.

54) Poor cross from Landon.

55) Pablo goes up the center awkwardly, is fouled, no call.

56) Good buildup by Argentina, Pearce takes someone down 29 yards out (thanks ESPN). Dangerous spot.

57) Mastroeni really looks like he is playing tonight because of his Argentinian heritage. The Rapids player is really out of his league here. Sorry Pablo.

59) PM blasts a ball to Damarcus Beasley way long from 50 out. Ruined possession. He follows it up with a poor tackle and Yellow Card. JP Dellecamera proudly notes, "that's his game". What a joke.

61) Another foul, 28 yards out. The US can't afford all these bad tackles. It is why we lose so many games. Freddy Adu comes in for Dempsey. Jay Demerit comes in for Oguchi Onyewu. Finally!!! Demerit should have played all these friendlies over Gooch.

63) Heath Pearce breaks up another play down the right. He looks like he should have had the spot long ago. He also slows down another possession, and Mascherano ends up swinging it around and out far from the goal.

65) Some subs from Argentina.

67) EJ takes a breakaway and looks to get injured. Argentina won't kick the ball out for him. Lots of whistles in the crowd. Looks to have banged up his ankle. He still should have done more with a one on one with the keeper. Again, Sasha Kljestan or Freddy Adu could have done more with it.

70) Donovan slows a breakaway, not sure why. Then Maurice Edu fould outside the box, another yellow card. And another freekick, this time 33 yards. Dangerous. Maybe one day we will learn to quit giving these kicks away.

71) Pablo Mastroeni gets red carded. Why? Don't know. Maybe they thought he was the guy who fouled on this play. It's tough to tell. On the replay it's very confusing. It seems to be a mistake on the foul called on Edu. Bad break for the US.

74) Seems like from Allen Hopkins report that Pablo said something to the ref to bother him. He got a second yellow after Edu's card, and that was the reason for the red. If he did, Mastroeni really needs to keep his head. Again, I don't think this was the right call.

75) Sacha Kljestan comes in for Eddie Johnson. Let's see what the Chivas USA player can bring.

76) Freddy Adu loses the ball twice as we gain possession. He needs to learn to clear the ball when necessary. Leads to another free kick. Nothing. Donovan recovers it, needs to run, pulls back. Poor choice.

77) They show the ref's name, I guess to remind us that he sucks. Haha. He's from El Salvador, and likely won't work again. Or shouldn't. You hear me FIFA?

78) Eddie Lewis comes in for Pearce. Hmm, who will switch back to D? Pearce deserves lots of credit for maintaining this Argentina team. EL might have a cross that we can put away. We'll see.

80) Great shot of the crowd, man you can hear them in Jersey tonight. Cheers to a better soccer crowd these days.

81) Wasted possession on a long ball to Landon. Cherundolo does well to keep a good cross out. On the short corner, Steve takes on their striker, and gets fouled. Well done.

83) Great work forward. Eddie Lewis had a nice cross.

84) Good opportunity on a foul. Free kick, Jay Demerit comes flyying through. Corner.

85) Another corner. We are playing well for 10 men. New York might be our new home stadium. Freddy Adu has a shot.

86) Tammy ate a pita chip while Landon Donovan gets cracked by Mascherano. LD is hurt. Freddy Adu gets in his face. Great to see the little guy fight for his boy! What a G. LD goes out limping. Tammy decides David Beckham should become an American citizen so he can play for us. A little naive but she's cute.

89) Freddy Adu goes at them. Good to see, makes one bad touch and loses the ball. Still like to see it from him. Tammy notes he's "adubag". ? Don't know.

90) Adu goes at them again. You'll see multiple guys come at Freddy each time. He commands attention. That's exciting for the future. It's pooring rain.

Stoppage: Frankie Hedjuk comes in after going 90 against the Quakes last night.

91) Sacha Kljestan has a shot, deflected. Corner.

94) Freddy Adu taken down from behind. Where's the card?? Come on. Freddy looks good by the way. Argentina is taking guys out now. Cherundolo takes the last hit. Game should wrap up in a moment.

95) Adu takes another nasty hit. This is wrong. Red cards should be flying. He's pissed. And he is looking like the future of our team! This is a great night for Adu.

Game. Overall this was a good accomplishment. 0-0 against the best team in the world is pretty good. Maybe this will save Bob Bradley's job. But I still have a problem with us waiting to put our best foot forward until we get home to the States. We should have played this way in England and Spain.

USA at Wembley

It's time to turn on your Red White and Blue Passion everybody. We have the biggest friendly we have had in a long time. Our Yankee football team are set to take on England's team at Wembley Stadium tomorrow at 3PM Eastern Time, 12PM Pacific Time on ESPN Classic.

Don't forget to watch (or tivo), and root for your boys. And, no matter what, absolutely no rooting for our friends in England is allowed, even if Beckham brings out the British fan in you. Just think, if our beloved Stars and Stripes can get a win over England at the New Wembley Stadium tomorrow, it will mean major attention and respect worldwide.

The USA are a confident bunch, and Bob Bradley seems determined to face difficult competetion getting closer to World Cup Qualifying. It's time to put up, or shut up. Here's to our boys coming home victorious!

Big Game

The EarthQuakes have a big game in Nueva York tomorrow against Osorio's new team Red Bull. Hopefully coming off a nice road win, a little confidence could help them land a second win in the meadowlands.

Houston, (they) have a problem. The only team without a victory, and currently sitting in dead last. What's happening in Texas?

LA is on a tear! And we hate it. Landon Donovan has 8 goals in 5 games, and looks like he is playing with energy for a full 90 for the first time in his career. I wonder if Ruud Gullit threatened him, or spiked his morning lattes. He's on fire, and hopefully will slow down before the SoCal foes come to Oakland in June. Sorry Chivas, you got worked tonight 5-2 (hat trick for LD, and an assist).

Speaking of Chivas USA, there's talk of a new town, new stadium, and new name. Come North guys, Sacramento will take you tomorrow! We hate LA, and Alexi Lalas too. Come on, we'll love you Goats. Please Preki, it's a nice place. Ah well.

Lastly, we are happy to hear Mr. Donald Garber, of such fame as being the boss of brilliant Ivan Gazidis, the dep commissioner of MLS, has apparently began a blog. Isn't that funny. So, the commissioner of MLS thinks he can do our job better than us, how ironic. And why not? I am sure he's read our complaints, and demands. It's a new four letter word around Northern California. What a game! Back in the MLS baby, but we gotta get a win. Today was so close, and I would argue that the EarthQuakes were the dominant team, and just fell short in the luck department.

I would have loved to interviewed Coach Yallop, or Shea Salinas. Shit, I would have interviewed the waterboy, but the San Jose EarthQuakes have for some reason lost my Press Credential. Let me say (professionally speaking of course) What the F? I can't imagine there are better members of the press to deliver them to. Memo to EarthQuakes Management Mike Crowley and David Alioto: Blog Press is better than no Press.

Anyway, this was a great game, and we could hear you Ultras and Casbah boys. Keep it up, this is going to be an exciting rebirth of our organization.

So speaking of the Front Office blowing opportunities, there's been no announcement of selling out the stadium that holds under 10,000 people! But there has been a recent announcement that they are looking for a Sales Director. Fellas, isn't this a little late? Shouldn't you have hired someone for this role months ago, at the latest? That empty desk looks silly around the office doesn't it?

On top of that, where's the Corporate Sponsorship on the front of the jersey? It had been predicted that senior management, such as Alioto and Crowley would have struck a deal with Yahoo, or Microsoft, or any major tech company to pimp the jersey. So far, not there yet.

On the field, it's coming along. Well done Coach Yallop, solid performance today, and on what we can tell is a shoestring budget. In the front office, who knows. But, I am hoping to be proven wrong, and soon. Already Seattle, Philly, even St. Louis and Montreal have better momentum with the community, so San Jose needs to step up, and quickly.

So, this sucks mang. I was all pumped to talk about how Hong Kong sucks, because it sucks, and then my computer crashed. First of all, I blame China. So, there will be some updates in the next few days, because of the kindness and generosity of my lady friend, but I apologize about missing the last few days.

You probably want to know why China, and Hong Kong specifically sucks. The Los Angeles Galaxy went out on a fantastic voyage to bring Beckhamball to China and here's the lack of respect shown by HKFC. Beckham and fellow Galaxy mates had kinder, wiser words for the Chinese club.

Alls I am saying is, show some respect Hong Kong Football Association chairman Brian Leung. If you can't say nothing nice, than shut your effing mouth. Ok? We don't know what chairman Leung looks like, but we assume it's like this (enjoy below).

Back from Oz!

Good News Kansas City, Kansas, or Kansas City, Missouri, wherever you are, you had a good off season. We are going to lay out the progress you have made here on our little Soccer bloggy here.

Number 1: Well, you lost Eddie Johnson, but you got a good size transfer out of it, and as I recall, you get money on his future transfers too. In our estimation, Eddie had come to the end of his MLS road, at least for now, and needed a new direction. In our opinion, (I would have said "humble opinion" if I could, but, ehh) it was a good deal for the Wizards, and EJ. He gets to move on to Fulham USA in the EPL, and you get cash for the next guy, right?

Number 2: You announced a new Soccer Specific Stadium plan (above). It's part of a $949 Million Dollar project, of which $273 Million will go to this cool new stadium for 18,500 seats. Can I just say for all MLS fans, whew! It sounds like a winner, and we can't wait to see you boys fill it up with new invigorated fans. Now, we can all stop asking when your team will be relocated to St. Louis, or Portland. You can keep your team, and well done! Want to see more of the stadium, click here.

Liverpool Owners to MLS?

Liverpool's American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett purchased the club just a few years ago are being pushed out by the fans, and asked to sell the team to their former rival bidders, Dubai International Capital. The team which they purchased for about $430 Million, is now valued at somewhere between $800 and $950 Million depending on which report you read. We here at the Blog don't feel the fans have really given these owners a chance, and so, we have an alternate plan to help the owners, so bear with us.

So here is a personal request to Mr. Hicks and Mr. Gillett: Listen guys, these Liverpool fans aren't just old friendly blokes like Paul McCartney or something, they are angry football fans that demand perfection, especially out of their Yankee owners. It's not fair, I get it. But why don't you do this, get back at them through Major League Soccer? Maybe an expansion team, like in Sacramento?

Plan: Sell your shares, talk some Sh*t on your way out the door, and bring that huge money here to a team in the States. Sign a Designated Player that would blow teams away. Then, we can take your MLS team to higher places than Liverpool, currently out of contention for winning the premiership, but in 4th place, and possibly in to next year's Champions League. You can have the first Major League Soccer SuperClub, and destroy competition from England, Spain, and Italy. This would be huge!

Imagine you fellas take your huge money from the sale, and reinvest it to an MLS team, won't that ruin their day? You take their profit, and turn it in to gold here. We all know you weren't perfect owners, but the problems on field were anything but your fault. So come on, bring that money to MLS. You can buy cheap now, and make a fortune down the line.

Bull Fight!!

Bad news Red Bull New York fans. Not only was there a terrible scrimmage, also known as a "friendly" game between your beloved Yankee Footballers and their brother team Red Bull Salzburg (See also: A-hole douchebags). The game was reportedly full of vicious tackles, heated tempers. Worse than that, the guy we had pegged for Rookie of the Year last season, your boy, Dane Richards (below) went down with a sprained MCL. Now I don't know what that is really, but it sounds bad. (For more on Sprained MCL's click here and also Here AHHHH...)

Even worse, Coach Juan Carlos Osorio said today, "It's a lot worse than we expected." He looks to be sitting out for the home opener against the Columbus Crew.

We gotta ask man, What the (Cencorsed bleep)?? Aren't these two teams playing for the same owner? So, they basically have the same boss? I can't imagine explaining to my boss that I just took another one of his employees out for a "month" or so!
Said Jeff Conway RBNY goalkeeper, "their intention was to hurt our guys..." Remember these people were right there in the middle of the beginning of World War 1. Let's hope it doesn't escalate, and turn in to a Civil "Red Bull" War. No offense to Dane who's a great player himself, but if this had been America's pride and joy, Jozy Altidore (above), I think we would be lining up the missiles in Austria's direction.

Good news is, he'll be back in a month or so, and he's young, so he'll recover. But let's hope these brothers learn from our friend Tommy Boy, that brothers don't shake hands (err, injure people), brothers gotta hug!

It's Bloody On!

This just in, The United States Men's team will take on England's boys across the pond in the New Wembley Stadium (pictured above) this May 28th. Yes, this is the 90,000 seat stadium. But don't get too excited, it's only a friendly, but it should be a great opportunity for some guy named David Beckham to get his 100th Cap, with both England and the USA watching!

This is great for a number of reasons. First of all, it should have enormous ratings here in the States. It's also a great way for the US Men's boys to face some real competition outside of Concacaf. I want to have beef with Bob Bradley, but this is a very good move.

Now, the important thing will be a clear MLS schedule for the friendly, and that Bob brings his top squad, not young guys to give a chance to. It's high time for the Yankees to get a road victory over a solid team!!

Falling Apart?

Fulham Football Club, America's favorite MLS side in Barclay's English Premier League are in desperate times. They currently hold the second to last place in the EPL, a league in which the bottom three teams will be relegated to the Championship, which is Major League Baseball's equivolent to Triple A. With so many great American soccer players, we here at the SacUnitedSoccerBlog find it to be quite a problem. This poses many problems to our National Team's development. We don't want Clint Dempsey, and Eddie Johnson for example playing week in and out against lower level teams all the way over in England. If the reason for joining the Premiership is tested and proven quality, then it's completely counterproductive. In other words sports fans, this sucks balls!

Here are the stats: 6 Americans; Carlos Bocanegra, Brian McBride, Clint Dempsey, Kasey Keller, Eddie Johnson, and someone named Brede Paulsen Hangeland. Current Status, 19th Place. Points: 19. Just 3 wins in 28 games! That leaves just ten games to gain ground and get out of the toilet. We wish the Cottagers luck!

On the brightside, many Americans are succeeding in the Premiership, such as American goalkeeper Tim Howard of Everton, who aren't in danger of relegation, in fact, currently in 4th place, they are in line for a shot at Champions League next year! Go Timmy!

The Cold Sweats are starting to clear up, as we here at the Blog can feel the 2008 MLS season coming. Just 27 days, and we will have opening day. I know some of your friends might be watching the NBA, whatever that is, and others are watching 120 days of PreSeason Baseball.

Dynamo's New Drag!

Attention Loyal EarthQuakes fans: This just in, the Houston Dynamo, a team tragically stolen away from San Jose, and replaced in Houston Texas, has a new owner, or rather, 50% shareholder. Oscar De La Hoya, the prolific boxer, and exceptional dresser and his company, Golden Boy Promotions reportedly have purchased half of Houston Dynamo's shares valued at somewhere around $80 to $90 Million. That is a lot of money that could be used on wigs. Ok, all jokes aside, this crossdressing boxer is a good, no, great business man. This is tough news for owners around the league that want to compete with the Orange Men in years to come. Even as AEG's stepson (always envious of the Galaxy's attention), the Dynamo have been nothing short of incredible as the league's first real dynasty, and could easily be a contender for the MLS Cup again in 2008.

This is even bigger news for Major League Soccer. It serves as another reminder that serious businessmen and companies Want In To MLS. And why shouldn't they? The Gloves Are Off. This league is taking a great form, and has excellent leadership at the top. I think it's safe to assume this bet will pay off for the former Gold Medalist.

Here's the interesting question though; With Golden Boy and their partners sharing just %50 of the power, and AEG controlling the rest (apparently to work the downtown stadium deal out), Who is really going to be in charge of this ship? It sounds all rosy now, but could Houston end up with a distaster like Liverpool has over in Anfield? Not likely, but you never know. This is a league now, where people, teams, and owners are taking their soccer pretty seriously. Next...

Philly Baby!

They did it!! Those Sons of Ben, the premature fanclub of a potential MLS expansion club in Philadelphia, brought so much attention to soccer in Philly that the government rallied its crew together to bring a $500 million dollar development to the Philly suburb of Chester, PA.

Let TheSacUnitedSoccerBlog be the first to say, Congratulations You SoB's!! That's awesome. The rally was great, the singing was awesome, and the plan is brilliant. You may have noticed, we here at TheSacUnitedSoccerBlog have the same idea, let's bring MLS to Sacramento. Check out the Press Conference Video, and look at this stadium plan, pretty sweet. Side note about that press conference, the Mayor of Chester was in tears of joy for what this development means to his community. That's pretty cool.

Also noted this week with San Jose returning in 2008, Seattle's team joining in 2009, and Philly in 2010, MLS is planning on adding to as many as 18 teams by 2011. St. Louis is a clear contender for the 17th spot, but who will join them as the 18th team? Portland? Vancouver? Montreal?

What do you think people? Could Sacramento raise the bar and become a contender? Is there a potential ownership group that could make this happen? What about one of the other local sports groups? Tough Work

Being Sacramento's Favorite Blogger is no easy task (well, maybe not favorite, but a blogger nonetheless). It can be very rewarding but also very difficult. So, after months of stress, and suicidal thoughts I finally took a break and went to Cabo on a little Cruise. What a mistake! The only salvation would have been jumping from the boat... so tired, no more beers please. But nevertheless, I won't let you bloglovers down. It's time to talk MLS, Hot Soccer Moms, and Polls.

Anyhow, while I was gone it looks like Eddie Johnson finalized a deal with Fulham. This club is rapidly becoming famous for it's love of the American player. They now have Brian McBride (former MLSer), Carlos Bocanegra, Kasey Keller, Clint Dempsey. That will make him the 5th American player to currently play on the roster, and now the rumor is that Craven Cottage also want Brad Guzan, and will fight it out with Celtic for him! Can you imagine if all 6 of these players were in London on the same side? Could be great, and just enough to keep them from relegation, fingers crossed.

Details: EJ to Fulham for 3.5 years, money not specifically known, but the deal is apparently around 5-6 million for the transfer/buyout. So KC may have some money to spend on new talent. If I had EJ's cell phone, and called him, I would then say our phone calls weren't immedietly returned (journalism baby).

No More Wynalda? And, about new talents, you may have seen the MLS SuperDraft on ESPN, or at least the first hour. Kind of entertaining. There's a new youth coming in, and the talent may be high! Check it out...(Full Hour of SuperDraft online version). You also may notice a new face in the booth for ESPN. That isn't Eric Wynalda, a personal favorite of mine. It is however, his old teammate John Harkes. He is apparently joining ESPN for the broadcast team in 2008. We'll see how he does... I wonder if this quote about Jim Rome had anything to do with this change (below)?? You gotta read the interview entitled "Beers with Wynalda" at the Fulham USA blog!

The Fault Line!

It's EarthQuake News people. For those of you that don't know, or it isn't clear. (I was told yesterday this looks like the sac united youth team page, ughhh). This blog is all about Major League Soccer, Soccer in America, and the Soccer Scene here in Sacramento. We hope one day to bring a MLS team here to Sacramento. And personally, we like the name SacUnited for that future (if ever) team.

On to The Fault Line, which is our new and cheesy name for San Jose EarthQuakes News. In a major move reported by the Kansas City Star, and then picked up by a real media outlet, Yahoo, The San Jose Boys apparently traded away the first pick in Friday's SuperDraft to get KC Wizards 1st round pick (circa the year 2000) defender Nick Garcia. You gotta love this picture of him, rocking the bad attitude and funny long soccer guy hair.

Also, if you didn't hear, like last week or so, The Fault Line is happy to announce that the Quakes also picked up spring chicken (well he's actually kind of old) Joe Cannon (pic below) from The Los Angeles Beckhams FC. In return LA recieved allocation money for their many offseason moves to come. Cannon was incredible last year on a terribly defended Galaxy defense, so this is a great move for SJ.
Both are solid pickups, and should round out a good back for San Jose. I am sort of disappointed not to get the kid (who Rick James would definitely call "Darkness") from Virginia Tech, Patrick Nyarko. The kid sounds amazing, and just may be the next Eddie Johnson, and might possibly replace him, (read below).

Speaking of EJ, did you hear that MLS may go through with a transfer offer from Fulham? This would mean that if Nyarko goes to KC, he may take EJ's slot. If so, with EJ, Brian McBride, Carlos Bocanegra, Clint Dempsey, and Kasey Keller, Fulham will easily be my favorite MLS team in all of England!!

So I want to respond to a couple more comments (in no particular order) about the NBA: National Disgrace! story... please read it, sorry pictures weren't really appropriate for this one.

The Quotes are VERY well Thought out, and good finds in relation to the story. I REALLY do appreciate the anonymous person who went to the trouble (as I had done) to find quotes, and stories on these issues.

While they were very interesting, my one disagreement with them, are regarding the consequences. In the NFL consequences for all misdeeds have become swift and unforgiving. In Baseball, people show up with "Baroids" posters, and the league (finally) had a full report on all the cheaters. Surely it is a black eye on the league, and they will lose much clout as well. I never addressed the NHL or Nascar, as I barely know anything about these sports, and am not qualified to even write about them.

As far as the relation of these things to the NBA, it seems that the NBA, and NBA fans are the only group, or collective body of a sport, that regularly skip over constant misdeeds of players.

One example of this is the continuation of Allen Iverson to lead a team in the NBA, and even a full marketing campaign with Reebok "I am what I am" portraying AI as the victim of his youth, and unable to change from a thug to a gentleman. That's a negative message even if there's some truth to it.

The Campbell's Chunky Soup commercials in the NFL are a less endorsing of criminal and gang relationships. So, yes, this "open relationship" to "hip hop" seems quasi-negative to me. I am sorry. I don't see another league defending and promoting those who are doing bad things on a regular basis.

Pac Man Jones was just denied entrance back in the NFL, again. This is a strong message to the other players in the League, "stay out of the strip clubs, and don't beat up women." It's simple. He (Jones) has a bad crowd, and he ends up making bad decisions. So he's out. I respect that. If you disagree, that's more than ok. I was just shining my light on something that seems right or wrong.

As far as race being a part of it. I am sure some regard these issues as only racial. I disagree. I am not coming down on Ken Griffey Jr. Not coming down on Michael Jordan, or Scottie Pippen. I am not exiling the likes of Baron Davis. Guys who play a good guy role in real life (as far as we can know) are fine. Terrell Owens for all his controversy has committed zero crimes to my knowledge, Chad Johnson, same thing. I only spoke about the criminals (noted to be criminals because of their multiple crimes) in the NBA, that aren't punished by the league.

It's fine if you want to say I am racist, but I never said one racist thing.

Martin Luther King Jr. said to judge people..."not on the color of their skin, but on the content of their
character."

I have done that. I judged these people on the content of their character. The players, and circumstances I mentioned in the NBA story (just a fraction of the many NBA players lives and circumstances) are exactly what I judged. The Tim Donaghey story, or the Seattle issue, have nothing to do with the races, or colors of people. Are the Maloofs poor black kids from the inner city?

Ray Lewis is an example in the NFL that baffles me. It's all wrong that he faces no consequences (to my memory) for his role in killing a man. That's just wrong. But on a whole, I don't find the NFL to be a league that stands by its stars right or wrong, and I think the NBA does typically. I think with David Stern at the helm, it's too late to change the NBA culture.

There were many many stories in the NBA I didn't even go into, as there was just too much. But again, if you hate me, and the story, I get it. I would too, but only if, I cared more about my favorite sport than truth.

And about my sport, yes I love soccer. But I am not blind, or naive. Are there problems around the world, in places like Italy, and Argentina? Yes. But, I was saying, let's keep Major League Soccer (a league played exclusively in the United States and Canada) clean! Before the MLS has the problems the NBA has, or the soccer leagues in Argentina, and Italy have, keep harsh rules, with "real consequences". Those Soccer Leagues are facing very similar problems (as the NBA) with violence, cheating, and damage control as a huge source of problems. With so much money in these leagues, like the NBA, maybe it's easier to find these problems. In contrast, the lowly MLS has not.

The MLS has largely been without controversy so far, and like I said before, "so far so good". But, that isn't to say it couldn't become tainted with controversy and criminal players. The story was a reminder for the sport to keep its hands clean in the decades to come. Because, let's face it, a league with the many troubles of the NBA, is ugly and sad. And it can ruin the image of so many great and honorable people like David Robinson, Reggie Miller, and so many other good guys the NBA has employed. But A little leaven, leavens the whole lump...

Becks leaving?

Did you hear? Sir David Beckingham, of such fame as this glorious moment, and a few great moments in soccer, is leaving... and with that the hopes of MLS are through. Well, that is if you think DB training with one of the best squads on God's green land is a problem.

That's right, to get back to "fitness" David Beckham will travel to England to train under Arsene Wenger, (see the two together) and the staff at Arsenal. I am not sure whether the Colorado Rapids (who had some partnership with Arsenal) are ok with this agreement. Not sure if anyone in England cares about the Rapids. Did they really name their stadium "Dicks"?? Ah well.

Phone calls weren't immediately returned by David's publicist, when I asked how this would affect his attendance at my Christmas Party. Jerk.

Basketball is Just

Another reason that I love Soccer. Here in Sacramento, we used to be the passionate fans of the Kings, ringing cowbells, booing Shaq, and blaming (rightfully so) the crooked refs for destroying "our (notice fan relationship to team) chance at the Title."

But somehow

In the last ten years, with a somewhat tricky relationship of stars to rap music, and thug culture, the NBA is now a gloomy look of a league plagued by slimy characters, and ugly nightclub stories. And it's taken it's toll on all of Basketball, especially here in Sacramento. I went to a game recently to see the effects, and noticed a light amount of fans.

Allen Iverson involved in off season shootouts at Night Clubs(notice that trend NBA thugs), or pissing in garbage cans at casinos, or arguing over "stolen" chips at casinos (good work AI), and his rap music (the kind of guy you take home to mom), The Murder Threats directed at his Cousin, yielding a Semi Automatic Weapon, The AI Timeline (controversy, followed by huge endorsement, controversy, huge endorsement, it will make you sick)

Then after all these nice crimes, and there are many more, Allen Iverson had the nuts to say that David Stern's NBA dress code was "racist". Oh, and this isn't the only time AI played the race card, the first time he was in trouble with the law.

Stern should tell AI to jump off a cliff and die.

Douchebag Carmelo Anthony

CA involved in gang videos called "Stop Snitching" that explain that you can't get caught "snitching" on thugs, or they'll kill you, making the "snitch" the bad guy.

Well Carmelo, I hope you wear red in the wrong part of town and enjoy the benefits of gang life. I won't pay to watch your dumb ass play a game so you can take my money and go kill people with it. And to think, somebody asked him to play for TEAM USA!! It's disgusting.

Kobe

Kobe Bryant's cheating on his wife, and the alleged rape and assault in Colorado hotel room.

Kobe/Shaq/Phil fallout that includes Adultery Allegations, and overall lack of class.

Ref Scandal

Years of overall assumption that the NBA is fixed, although denied continuously.

The Tim Donaghy Cheating/Betting Ref Scandal that led most to believe it is fixed.

Stern says "isolated" "rogue" case.

Evidence supports many refs (56 total) were involved in illegal gambling in some context.

Isaiah Thomas

Isaiah Thomas calling an employee a "bitch" because she gave him "no love today", and rejecting his sexual harassment, but that was no problem because he was "black" and so it's okay for him (wow), and all of this has landed him zero punishment from the Knicks' Ownership Group. That link has an interesting take.

The Maloofs talking David Stern in to having the NBA All Star Game, a ghetto event by most standards, in Las Vegas, the City of Sin, an ideal place for Basketball Players who want to act like, and hang around with Rappers, and Gangsters. Quick note: 362 ARRESTS AT THE EVENT!! Bad decision.

Just today, December 14th Jason Kidd (this time not with wife/ex Joumana) made the news by allegedly "groping" and "threatening" a model in a (guess where) Night Club. It seems the NBA is so intense you even have to work out all night in clubs dancing, molesting, and threatening people. Don't forget the fights. (Read the threat here).

Tip of the Iceberg

Trust me, there are many many many many (I don't know how many times I can say this) many more stories, but the latest one is just another example of the low lifes that the NBA is producing, and why I say let the NBA fall apart, and quit supporting criminals.

Check out this Former Trailblazer's Fan's Take on his Site, http://www.nbacriminals.com/ I can't say I fault him at all. This is no longer the league of Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Kevin Johnson, Larry Bird, and Kenny Smith. Those players conducted themselves with class, for the most part, and were part of a league and an era of respect. The NBA is no longer that league. How is this a Soccer story? Here's how.

Soccer?

I say, bring on the MLS, and enforce (before necessary) HARSH penalties on any player in MLS who acts like the Neanderthals in the National Basketball Association. The punishment on Houston Dynamo's Ricardo Clark for kicking the FC Dallas player Carlos Ruiz in the face (9 games $10,000 (tons of money by MLS standard)) is a good start. As it is now, the MLS is the least tainted league in the country, and has some of the best role models in American sports. There is only 12 years of history, and so far so good. MLB is dealing with the Steroids Issue today with the huge Mitchell Report, and The NFL dealt with Michael Vick and Ray Lewis recently, but the MLS is clean now. Let's keep it that way.

By the way David Stern, it's too late. Just resign. Let the NBA fall apart. You don't owe the players, the coaches, the teams, or the organizations. Trust us, they aren't doing you any favors.

Balance

Don't get me wrong. There are good images in the league as well. But for every nice guy's image like Tim Duncan, there's an even greater number of images (more marketed btw) of Thugs. It's like a Cancer that has a hold of a body, and won't let go until it's killed it.

Ronaldinho to MLS?

So here's my question people: FC Barcelona star Ronaldinho (27 years old, Brazil) known for being both an amazing player, and a prolific partyboy, is said to be on his way out of Spain. Chelsea FC has reportedly had talks, then denied the talks, to the star's agent about a transfer that would leave him paid about $15 million a year for the English Club.
Every MLS fan knows (or should) that Ronny has expressed interest in the United States, and would be a HUGE ADDITION to the league.

So if Beckham can yeild a return on the MLS investment of $250 million in five years through endorsements, why can't we go after Ronaldinho and pay him $20 million a year (most through sponsors) for 3-4 years?

He will sell everything out? Can you imagine This In(you gotta click this link) New York, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas? It would be crazy.

I know there are critics who will say, "why would he come to a 'minor league'?" Or, "he won't come here until he is out of his prime" or "MLS can't afford him."

Well, I can argue against all of those points as a business man...well, as something.

1) First of all, you don't make him a small offer, you add 5 million dollars to his annual amount over Chelsea's offer. Plus life in the States would be perfect for a partyboy foreignor.

2) He won't come here until he is old and washed up, if and only if, we let these stars make their own decisions(see Denilson experiment, Claudio Reyna catastrophe, and Waterreus fall). Tell him, "Now or Never". If you don't want to come now, in your prime, the MLS doesn't want you. The money should be a strong enough motivator to accept this offer. Plus living expenses are like half of what the costs are in London, so, it's not a bad idea.

3) The MLS can afford him. The Return on Investment for Beckham according to Alexi Lalas, is already there. He (Becks) has already paid us (MLS) back so to speak. Ronaldinho is a star of equal caliber, but at the very top of his game. MLS would make more money off this move than Beckham's, and that is an absolute fact! (anyone remember Uncle Scrooge McDuck?)

Lastly, this would be great for Ronny. He would be forever known in this country and around the world as being the guy who made MLS really matter. Sure the others played big parts, but this transfer at his stage in life would be the biggest thing since Pele.

Whattup homies? I don't know if you listened in or not, but your boy, that's right, me, was on the California Cougars broadcast this past weekend. The lead Broadcaster, Greg Young, who we have known a long time, invited us out to join him in the booth, and talk about the website, the Hottest Soccer Mom Contest, and the California Cougars!

You can catch a rebroadcast of all the games at their website, http://www.californiacougars.net/ , and soon you will be able to listen to this weekend's game which was against the new expansion team, Monterey La Raza (from Mexico). The Cougars dominated, and we had fun talking soccer, the blog, and Sacramento/Stockton.

One thing we noticed real quick, is the speed of their player, Brian Farber(pictured below)!! Wow, some MLS GM should have their eye on this guy. As Greg put it, "the fastest guy in MISL". No joke, this guy should be chasing down an MLS Club.

So, I guess I pissed some people off. So here it is. Sorry Utah, Utah's Cousins, Utah's Husbands, and Utah's Wives. All of them. No, seriously. I made some quick jokes about Real Salt Lake in the last post, all while complimenting the team, organization, and stadium.

If We Built It?

There's been a bunch of talk about MLS Expansion, right? Seattle, Portland, St, Louis, Philly, Vancouver, Montreal, New York (Mets with a Second NY franchise), and many many more.

One of the Reasons TheSacUnitedSoccerBlog exists, is because we want an MLS team here. Now, with the expansion, the main issue has been the Soccer Specific Stadium. So here's a look at some of the stadiums that are in the works, hope you enjoy!

This is the Future of New York's Soccer World, Red Bull Park (above), newly redesigned to hold 25,000 people. We here at the Blog cannot wait to see this place built, it's so Euro, and so pimp. Road trips are definitely in store to the Big Apple! Look for this stadium in 2009.

Philadelphia, err, Chester, Pennsylvania. Here's a look (above) at the proposed stadium for a future Philly FC. The Sons of Ben have done an inspirational job in pulling weight to bring a team in, so much so that the PA Governor got behind it. Well done good sirs! If you want to help them, visit, TheSoB's

This is the original design for DC United's Stadium in Poplar Point (above). It doesn't look like this will happen, but it's a true shame because we here at the blog read through the business model, saw the look of their whole community being helped, and directed to a sick product in this stadium!

Notice a trend in these stadiums with roofs over the fans? But, shouldn't it be "rooves" not "roofs"? Ah well. Cross your fingers for DC, or else they may be taken out to Maryland or something, weak!

As if Joseph Smith himself shined upon Real Salt Lake, the community, and the organization are teaming up to build this glorious park(above)!! And if Mitt Romney gets elected President (and shortly thereafter, Father King) they should have plenty of money and resources to become the first SuperClub in the MLS.

Sorry LA Galaxy. We know your stadium is cool too, it's just too bad it's in LA. Bummer bros!

Our Boy, Greg Young (pictured) will be broadcasting live today with the California Cougars Game. Yes, they are an indoor soccer team in the MISL. For those of you who know, Indoor Soccer is a blast, and Greg is a Champion Broadcaster. He asked me to let everyone know the best way to listen in.

I asked Greg for a little info on tonight's game, and this is what he said,

It's KiXX v Cougars round two... The Cougars travel to the city of brotherly love for a rematch of last Sunday's 14-6 loss to the Philadelphia KiXX. The Cougars will look to slow down their former teammate Aaron Susi who lit the Cougars defense for two goals and an assist in his return to Stockton. At the top of the Puma Scoring Champion list is current Cougar forward Enrique Tovar. Qeeks and his squad will look to improve to 3-3 for the year with a win tonight. Gametime is set for 7:05 et, 4:05 pst.

Where's the MLS?

I know, you miss the MLS. You miss seeing occasional games, almost always showing the Galaxy. And you miss Fox Soccer Channel, and goofy~ass Max Breton. The triple play of Eric Wynalda, Tommy Smyth, and whoever was in the booth with them that day on The Deuce... we do too....

BIG MLS OFFSEASON

But the good news is, this offseason will be action packed. Not only will there be plenty of news on the expansion and growth of our San Jose EarthQuakes, the MLS, and TheSacUnitedQuakeFans joining up with the Ultras, (send all interest in games to SacUnitedSoccerBlog@yahoo.com) but there will also be good Soccer from around the world!!

Look for a story on the expansion draft picks, a possible designated player, and plenty of Quakes news.

Also, since Seattle accounced a new team for 09 last week, they have already taken over 7,000 season ticket deposits. They aren't even joining the league until 2009!!@@!! Yeah, I'd say the MLS is a hot ticket these days... Do I smell another Toronto Like Fan Base?? By the way, TFC has sold out their 2008 season tickets adding up to 16,000.

Where are the Quakes at with ticket sales? Are you going to join us next year? It will only be about $300 for 17 home games!!! CMON!

ENGLAND IS OUT, (GASP, SHOCK, HORROR)

As we all know, England had a huge match against Croatia Wednesday, and needed only a draw to qualify for EuroCup 08, and lost 3-2, eliminating their chances. A devastated nation is speaking out, and boss Steve McClaren has already been axed.

Alright boys and girls, we had our First Ever MLS CUP FINAL PARTY at the Taqueria (thanks Joe) this past Sunday Morning, and We think it was a resounding success!

So many of our friends got up, showered (check out Ferris B~) and showed up
(about 30 or more), and cheered, rooted, and got to know each other.

Alright Debbie D, I know what you are thinking. "Big deal," Right? Well, it was at 9 AM, on a Sunday Morning, and at least half of us were hungover, whooops (shouldn't have gone out the night before)...

but, that wasn't anything a great Breakfast Burrito from The East Sac ~Midtown Taqueria couldn't take care of... yummy. By the way, our Hangovers weren't quite this bad, sorry Lindsey!!

You heard it right people. Bruce Arena is done. I know, I know, it's kind of old news, but I still have a few things to say.

Number One, Bruce Arena is not "my boy". That's right, you Pardon the Interruption fans, I am no fan of Bruce Arena.

Number Two, Bruce Arena is not a good coach. I know he has had a lot of success, but at the National Level, or Pro Level, or even College Level, he was good at finding good players. But he can't ever seem to get the best out of them at the right time. Anybody remember the World Cup? AHHH.....

Number Three, Bruce Arena blew it with Juan Pablo Angel, and apparently, according to many reports, his "boy" Claudio Reyna. The Red Bulls felt it necessary to end that relationship for the good of the club. (See Red Bulls will fire anyone who doesn't bring home an MLS CUP in under two years, seriously)

Number Four, I think BA's first mistake was bringing back grandpa Claudio Reyna, after he F-ed up USA's last world cup, and misses every game due to injury.

Number Five, I have to say he did alright. The guys were playing pretty well, but they didn't take the cup. So, while he isn't my boy, I still think RBNY are asking a lot. But that's New York, and that's business.

To put it simply, Bruce Arena is done. I don't know where he will be in a year, but I assume he will be in management, or broadcasting. But coaching is out, at least for a number of years.

MLS PLAYOFFS ARE AT HAND.

Before we get in to MY PICKS, how are there entire Playoff Series not being televised?? Some of you have expressed concerns that you aren't able to really follow what's happening in the MLS Playoffs, so we are going to try and help you here...

CHIVAS USA vs. KANSAS CITY WIZARDS

While we here at the blog aren't Mexican Soccer Fans, and we hate the Mexican National Team, Chivas USA has really grown on us. I mean, cmon, they are mainly American players these days anyhow. Plus Quake Fans, they are the biggest enemy of LA GALAXY, and so, for that reason alone you have to root for them. Plus, they play an exciting style of football, that will look great if they make the Western Conference Championship (none of the west coast playoffs will be on tv until the next round). Plus, we here at the Blog have no love for KC. Empty stadiums, midwest laze. So boring, but they are up in the series, 1-0 (remember, it's all goals people). But look to Chivas to bring it home back at the Home Depot Center in the second leg.

Prediction: Chivas defeats KC 3-2 on goals.

HOUSTON DYNAMO vs. FC DALLAS

I know, I know. Quakes fans are all messed up. To love or hate Houston? As the Former team of San Jose, we had such love for the players, and team, and now they rule Houston, and we are waiting. They are clearly a stellar team, earlier this season they were on EPL form in our book, but have sinced dwindled back to good, but not great. FC Dallas was on fire, and looked to explode with the arrival of Denilson! Well they exploded, and fell apart. How? Nobody can truly say. They were amazing in the heart of the season around SuperLiga, and now, ehhh. Don't look for a long term fixture in Denilson, unless they turn it on in the playoffs. They have a lead, scoring on Houston in sloppy fashion. So, it will be a shootout this Friday when (un-televised) Houston brings it back to their orange army of fans at home. With the loss of Ricardo Clark, look for a feisty battle, and scrappy play. Well, in the highlights at least... lame. Prediction: FC DALLAS wins 2-1 and at least one red card will be brought out.

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION vs.

NEW YORK RED BULLS

We here at the Blog LOVE, not like, LOVE the Red Bull New York crew. Jozy Altidore, at 17, could be one of the biggest names in MLS history, and, if

he sticks around, might just help drive the league to new heights. Juan Pablo Angel, need I say more? What a stud. And, classy, yeah, I know that has been covered. But, he is a prime example of the good of the Designated Player, and Beckham's arrival. Hopefully he'll be around long enough to play at Red Bull Stadium when completed, as a coach if nothing else. And speaking of coaches, never was a Bruce Arena fan, and after he

criticized JPA in the draw, I say Good Day to him. Why don't I like New England? I don't know. Maybe the Patriots, the Red Sox, the Celtics (add Garnett), and general reasons, smelly red beards, etc.

To put it simply, they have won too much as a city in recent years, and I say Good Day to them, too.

Prediction: New York 2-0 and New England will cry and moan over phanton calls, and unlucky moments.

CHICAGO FIRE vs. DC UNITED
Oh wow, this is the battle, and almost everyone will see these matches. While DC United is a solid team, and have heart over skill. They are a great story. And they just might get better with a DP, a potential new stadium in Poplar Point, or Maryland. But, they got nothing on Chicago, and Shreky Shrek Blanco! I love the momentum in Chicago, it feels like a winning fight. Sure, it's not always pretty, and Blanco is just begging for some cards when he "shhh's" every ref, every three minutes. But, we love him. What a shock!

Prediction: DC will score 2, and Chicago will score 1, Chicago Wins in Overtime, 3-2 total goals.

Justin I think you get it. Football/Soccer is the best sport, and the best way to have a good time with fans. So, get all the guys you know that want to join us, and we can begin the SacUnitedSoccerBlog's fan club, SacUnitedQuakeFans! Get them on the Blog, reading, making myspace friends. We will do pub crawls, and hit the games in huge singing groups. And, we noticed on your "Sworn Enemy List" you posted Landon Donovan. Lol. That will endear to the true, old school San Jose EarthQuakes Fans! WELCOME!!

Kennbomb! Love the nickname. I wonder if you are just a young high school kid who loves soccer, or like an accountant, with a funny (if slightly immature) nickname that keeps you young. Either way, welcome to the blog. Glad to have you.

As far as the Jessica Alba pictures. We found a good one. All you have to do is click her name. And don't worry it's nothing graphic, so if it's a work computer, or your parents', you can still safely click. All you have to do is click the blue link. Here it is again.

3) The Night before The US vs. Switzerland Friendly, some British Guy wrote to us, from a place we like to call, The Land of Crooked Teeth, and good Football. He said this,

"Who cares about the U.S friendly the big one is England vs Russia in moscow. Come on my old roommate you should know this mate"

For the record, the England Game was huge. It's a shame they couldn't secure Euro 2008 when playing the Russians. While they might laugh at our "Soccer", we are still closer allies to the Brits than the old Commies in Russia! Oh, and my "old roommate doesn't look like Austin Powers. Haha.

4) Ohh, this one is a touchy subject. One of our Readers (an ajax fan) doesn't appreciate the Blog Face, with the kid flipping off the opposing team.

He writes, "As an Ajax fan I find your blog photo totally insulting! Glad to see the blog though. I live in the Sacramento area and believe professional soccer could do well here. The Sacramento Knights just don't cut it."

Dear Ajax Fan, I didn't fully understand why you were upset as an Ajax Fan, until I did some research into knowing too much of the Ajax/Feyenoord Rivalry. After reading up on these things, I understand why it could be so offensive.

We chose the Picture, because it reminds us of the Passion of Soccer Fans, and represents MLS fans, as a new, young breed of Soccer Fans. While we will take this very seriously, you can rest assured that we mean no racism, hatred, or violence towards Ajax, or any other football clubs or fans.

You are right though, about the Knights, while it is good, the MLS belongs in Sacramento, at some point. And we need to UNITE to make this happen!!

Quakes New Uniforms?? What's NEW? Well One Thing is, John Doyle as The Quakes General Manager!

So, while we here at TheSacramentoUnitedSoccerBlog can't seem to figure out what's all that different about the New Uniforms, and New Logo, we are happy to report the announcement of John Doyle as the General Manager of The San Jose EarthQuakes!

Hopefully, the Team can begin announcing things such as:

1) Plans for Game Locations Next Season(Sacramento, SJ, Oakland Coliseum? All of the above)

2) Plans for Finding a Coach (Will it really be Franky Galaxy? Not if Los Angeles finds a way to make the playoffs. Jurgen Klinnsman in the South Bay??)

3) Designated Player??? Come on, who should we get? Thoughts people?

Oh by the way, Brandi Chastain was announced to be some part of the organization as well, not really clear what she is doing. But maybe it will be walking around the Quakes game in a sports bra?

WTF?!!@? We're carded? Only a matter of time until it's a full Red Card. What do they say, if you're not cheating, you're not trying? Ah well, more on that story later.

First we have some things to discuss, not the least of which is the Playoff Race in the MLS. Also, some Expansion News, Ideas, and Notes.

Remember to Cast your Vote on our MLS poll. Just look to the right, and decide, MLS squad in Sacramento? Support the Quakes? Support the Quakes, for now, but Sacramento needs a team someday? You can tell us, we're listening...

Plus, we have Puff Daddy an Da Band outside your window with guns, and they will make you vote.

So, it's now October, and the playoff race is tight:

The LA Galaxy, yes, the LA Galaxy that we all watched thrive in SuperLiga, and
suck b-iz-alls all season long in MLS, have come alive. Isn't it wierd that with Beckham(picture included for the sake of you women readers) gone, and overseas (to aid his ailing father), the Galaxy is really coming on strong? Three straight wins for the Angelinos, and at a time when it's basically do or die. Don't get us wrong, the Galaxy should be better next season, but if they make the playoffs, it would be a good story. Only 6 points behind Chicago, the final game of the Galaxy season against The Fire in Chicago could be the final decider. This could be very interesting.

Real Salt Lake is out. And they have been good lately as well, but it was too little, and too late.

Columbus and Colorado look like they are going to take an early vacation, and Chicago seems to be on a tying spree, Blanco and all. Colorado has the easiest schedule, but are pretty far behind. Los Angeles has an extra game, and could be the Cinderella Story, while Chicago looks strong, but has the toughest schedule. Columbus won't be sailing the Ocean blue to the playoffs, so Ohio fans shouldn't hold their breath.

So, who will be the final team to make the playoffs? Your guess might be as good as ours. So you tell us. Who's your eighth team in the playoffs this season?

(For the record, we here at TheSacUnitedSoccerBlog don't really think your guess is as good as ours, we just said it to make you feel better. We still feel superior, sorry about that).

Expansion Coverage:

In case you missed it, which means you aren't paying too much attention to anything in the MLS, Ives Galarcep of ESPN reported that Seattle is next to join the MLS. The ownership of USL squad the Seattle Sounders are to be the next heirs of the MLS for a guestimated cost of $30 million, and some kind of sweet negotiation with Qwest Field. Now what does that mean? Nobody really seems to know too much yet. It's supposed to be announced by the Don Garber posse in the next few weeks. Also, the rumors are that for some reason the USL champions will leave the USL for next season, and revamp the program for the 2009 expansion. The news spread like an epidemic, and so much so, that Sounders fans chanted "One more year" throughout the last game. Look for all that to unfold shortly.

Ok you Sons of Ben in Philly, and St Louis Soccer people. You are all like, what what what? Seattle? Don't worry, I think everybody sees expansion happening like wildfire. We here at TheSacramentoUnitedSoccerBlog see you being added by 2010 at the latest, but more likely at least one of you, to be added by 2009. Probably whichever city is more prepared for a full organization. Our guess is St. Louis will be the latter. That's ok though fellas. By then the League should be looking at massive growth! Think huge sponsorships, huge partnerships, and much more television coverage. All of these things will make your expansion the easiest, and most notable.

Also, it looks like you midwestern folk will be prepared, as it was reported by Yahoo Sports (link here)(http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news;_ylt=AiqUgDhp.Ba0Ov3fNnCO.ds5nYcB?slug=txmlstalkingpoints&prov=st&type=lgns) that St. Louis is combining three major youth programs to one, to help develop a youth program that helps supply the future MLS squad with talent. They are said to have combined the forces of over 3,000 people! That's pretty cool if you ask us. Could this be done in Sacramento, or the Bay Area? What do you think readers?

There's nothing new to report with the San Jose Earthquakes, not yet at least. Except in an answer to K_Bomb's comment. He asked about bringing the SacUnitedSoccerBlogReaders to the Quakes games together. It's an obvious fit. The season (2008) should have games played here in Sacramento, and we might as well take on a form like the RedPatchBoys of Toronto, of any of the fan clubs in DC. We should make our mark on the MLS landscape!! Look for more details to come on this.
